Omusubi Newsletter and Mail Magazine

Omusubi
is the Japan Foundation, Sydney's newsletter and email magazine.
The 16-page newsletter is published quarterly and distributed to more than 4,000 people around Australia, reaching schools, universities, artists, businesses and local communities. The email magazine is sent monthly, and contains links to event information and various articles published on our website.

Omusubi features information about the Japan Foundation, Sydney's events and Japanese film screenings, Japan-related event information around Australia, ideas and resources for school teachers of Japanese, and a range of articles focussing in Japanese culturea and Australia-Japan related issues.

The title comes from the Japanese verb musubu (), which means to join, to unite or to form a connection.
Musubu can also convey the idea of establishing friendly relations. Omusubi reflects the Japan Foundation's wider aim of connecting Japan with other countries, cultures and people. Omusubi is also another word for handmade rice balls, a traditional healthy snack in Japan. We'd like to think that our newsletter and email magazine provide a nourishing and satisfying reference to Japan's language and culture, and to Japan-related events in Australia.
