Japanese Language Courses at the Japan Foundation, Sydney 2012
 

Welcome to the Japan Foundation’s Japanese Language Courses!

Our language courses provide you with opportunities to be immersed in the language as they are conducted in Japanese. Our courses enable you to use Japanese to express yourselves in various practical situations through a variety of classroom activities.

Our language courses are designed in accordance with the “JF STANDARD FOR JAPANESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION” (hereafter referred to as the “JF Standard*”). The JF Standard focuses on the competences involved in using the language at various levels of proficiency.

Beginner 2, Intermediate, Pre-Advanced 1 and Advanced course.

 
Course Information
  Each one year course consists of 4 terms x 10 weeks. (Applications are taken every term).
     (Term 1: Jan 30 – Apr 5, Term 2: Apr 23 – Jun 29, Term 3 : Jul 16 – Sep 21, Term 4 : Oct 8 – Dec 14)
  *NOTE: We have a lesson on Bank Holiday (Monday, August 6).
  Class hours are 6.00pm - 8.00pm (10min. break included).
  Course Fee (per term): $300 , $290 for JPF Sydney members (To become a member, click here)
  Venue is the Japan Foundation, Sydney (Level 1, Chifley Plaza 2 Chifley Square Sydney)
  The minimum age requirement for participants is 16 years.
  Classes are conducted mainly in Japanese.
  Course fees cannot be refunded unless a course is cancelled due to low enrolment numbers.
  In case enrolments don’t reach the minimum number of class, the class may be cancelled.
 
 
Level Check
Beginner 1, 2 and 3, Intermediate and Pre-Advanced 1: A written test and mini interview in Japanese.
Advanced: A composition and mini interview.
Payment/Course Fee
Our course is a one year course consisting of 4 terms and the course fee is $300 per term ($290 per term for JPF Sydney members).

An invoice will be sent via email within 7 business days from the receipt of your application form. Course fee (per term) can be paid by Bank Transfer, Credit card or Cash.
Please note: Your place will be only approved once payment has been confirmed.
1. Bank Transfer: Please remember to give the invoice number as the reference as we need it to confirm your payment (our account information will be shown on the invoice).

2. Credit Card & Cash: Only accepted at the reception desk, the Japan Foundation, Sydney during business hours (Mon-Fri, between 9:00-12:30 and 13:30-17:00).

No credit card payment via phone is available.
Textbook
  1. A textbook fee is not included in the course fee.
  2. Participants will be required to purchase textbooks for themselves.
  3. Textbooks can be purchased at Books Kinokuniya (The Galeries, Level 2, 500 George Street) and other book shops in Sydney.

Course/ Class changes
  1. Course/class changes can be accepted without administration fee during the first two weeks of the term.
  2. For requests for course/class changes after the first two weeks, an administration fee of $50 will be charged.
  3. Participants must request to change their course/class via email (jcourse@jpf.org.au).
  4. Course/class changes can only be accepted when the requested alternate class has available places.
  5. Consultation with teacher is required.
Substitute class
  1. Only available for courses that open 2 class in the same class week If you are unable to attend a class and would like to take a substitute class, the substitute class is only possible in the same class week. The request for the substitute class must be made via email (jcourse@jpf.org.au). The notice deadline for each course is as follows:

    Tue Monday on which you would like to take the substitute class, by 2.00 pm
    Mon & Wed
    (Beginner 1 course)    		 Mon Monday on which you will be absent, by 2.00 pm
    Wed Monday on which you would like to take as the substitute class, by 2.00 pm
    Tue & Thu
    (Beginner 2 course)    		 Tue Tuesday on which you will be absent, by 2.00 pm
    Thu Tuesday on which you would like to take as the substitute class, by 2.00 pm

  2. The participant must receive a confirmation email from jcourse@jpf.org.au.
  3. We cannot accept any substitute class requests without advance notice.
  4. As places are limited, we cannot always guarantee your substitute lesson.
