Japan Foundation, Sydney Library visit
 
The Japan Foundation, Sydney Library is a public lending library for people in Australia who are interested in Japan, Japanese culture and the language. The collection has over 19,000 items.

A Junior Library car is available for students aged 15-17 years old. On the day of the centre visit students who wish to apply for a library card should bring their completed application which requires their parent/guardian's signature.

Japan Foundation, Sydney Gallery visit
 

The Japan Foundation, Sydney Gallery has exhibitions throughout the year. Teachers are encouraged to schedule their centre visit to coincide with the following exhibitions in 2011;

20 Jan - 16 Feb     Ma: Space Between Here and There

Obento lunch order
 
Students can enjoy an authentic Japanese style lunch in the nearby Botanical Gardens. Obentos are $8 each and students can choose from two types, All-in-one obento or Vegetarian obento. Teachers who would like to order obentos must email the required number of obentos no later than 3 days prior to their visit.
The Japan Foundation, Sydney will organise and arrange delivery to our office. Cash payment is required on the day of your visit.
 
Art Gallery NSW visit (we recommend groups visit the gallery in the afternoon) 
 

The Art Gallery of New South Wales houses a permanent Japanese collection including works featured in the resource kit for Japanese language learners, Art Speaks Japanese. Teachers are invited to take their students to the Gallery, which is about a 15minute stroll from the Japan Foundation office, to view the exquisite works. Entry to the Asian collection is free of charge.

Alternatively the Art Gallery of New South Wales conducts guided tours for school groups. Tours take 1 hour and a charge applies. Further information and booking forms are available here:

Nihongo Tanken Centre (for groups from outside Sydney)
 
For groups travelling to Sydney to experience Japanese culture a two day excursion option is available. As above groups can participate in a one day excursion at the Japan Foundation, Sydney. On the second day we recommend a visit to the Nihongo Tanken Centre where students are immersed in Japanese culture for the day. For more information please visit the website below. Bookings should be made directly with the Tanken Centre. Please note excursion fees apply.
