In 1997, the Japan Foundation, Sydney - Cultural Section published the Japanese Artists' Directory in Australia as part of the Australia-Japan Friendship Anniversaries. Since then, many Japanese artists have been introduced throughout Australia for promoting Japanese culture.
 
This year we would like to introduce Japanese artists on this website to further the recognition of Japanese artists and Japanese cultural organisations in Australia, so that we will be able to encourage appreciation of Japanese culture in Australia and promote cultural exchange between Australia and Japan.
 
If you feel you are suitable for this directory, we would appreciate very much if you could register yourself as an artist following the steps below.
 
1. Japanese artists living in Australia and holding Australian Citizenship or Permanent residence (incl. persons in the process of applying for a permanent residence visa)
2. Independent artists or groups / organisations under all fields of art - from classical and traditional to contemporary
 
  • Visual Arts & Fine Arts - e.g. Artchitecture, Craft, Cross-Media, Film, Graphic Design, Painting / Drawing, Photography, Sculpture
  • Performing Arts - e.g. Music, Theatre, Dance
  • Groups / Organisations - e.g. Tea Ceremony, Ikebana.
1. Introduction of individual artists, groups or organisations showing profile, selected activities, comments, etc. page by page
2. Three photos of the artist's works or activities + one portrait photo of the artist
3. Link to the artist's individual site / homepage (if any)
 
Simply fill in the online registeration form and send three images of your works or activities and one image of yourself (portrait) by digital file.
*Please send the image as 72 dpi JPG Windows compatible file (640x480 pixel recommended) to the e-mail address below. Please do not forget to attach a description of each photograph.
Alternativly, if you would like to send printed photos, please be sure to write your name, address, contact number and description on the back of the photograph (in soft pencil, not ink). Photos will not be returned unless requested.
