Borrow resources through Inter-Library Loan

The Japan Foundation, Sydney supplies its library resources to other library in Australia and New Zealand through the inter-library loan network.

How does it work?

Prepare the bibliography of resources (title, author, edition info., publisher, ISBN etc.) you want to borrow, and consult with an inter-library loan officer at your local public or university library. The officer will attempt to find a supplying library usually from the nearest location, however, you can nominate the Japan Foundation, Sydney as a single supplying library for all the titles you require.

For New Zealand residents, your local libraries will assist you in an attempt to find a supplying library from the New Zealand library network prior to forwarding the loan request to the Australian library network only when no New Zealand library can fulfil the request.

Once the Japan Foundation, Sydney receives your loan request through the inter-library loan network, we will post the loan items to the requesting library. The Japan Foundation, Sydney charges a supplying fee to the requesting library. Minimal supplying fee prescribed by the network is $12.00+GST, and the fee may increase depending on the postage cost. A quote for a supplying fee may be provided prior to the actual loan process.

It is up to the requesting library’s policy whether the fee is passed to the requesting patron (eg. Typically, university teaching staff members are entitled to free-use of inter-library loan at the university library).

Any loan processes will be performed by the requesting library, these may include loan renewal and returning services. Your will need to return the borrowed item(s) to the requesting library, NOT directly to us. The requesting library will then return the item(s) on your behalf.

Borrowing terms

	There is no limit on the number of items borrowed. Loan period is for 5 weeks.
	Some items are classified as “Short Loan Items”. Short Loan Items are not to be borrowed through inter-library loan.
