I went to Applecross Senior High School and Leeming Senior High School as a Young Japanese Teacher. Both schools have good reputation for Japanese education. I also had an opportunity to visit rural schools to introduce Japanese culture with Schools of isolated and Distance Education (SIDE). I also took part in the Japanese cultural festival at three primary schools, where I introduced Japanese culture (cooking, origami, karate, etc.)It was really amazing how engaged the students were with their study of Japanese. I was very impressed with how the students were familiar with Japanese culture, even though they had not met a Japanese person before.
I met many students and teachers from a variety of countries. Everyday was full of learning. Working at senior high schools in Perth, I have had many good experiences and gained knowledge of various aspects of Japanese language education. In particular, the students taught me more than I could teach them. I was always glad, whenever I heard the students greet me with “ Konnichiwa, Hisako-sensei!” Their smiles and energy made me happy every time!!! I hope they can come to Japan in a few years time and we can catch up again. I’d like to see how they are going.
I am very happy and grateful that I have had such a great experience in WA. I really appreciate all the support I’ve received throughout the year from everyone.
