I have been in Adelaide (South Australia) since 22nd January I’m currently teaching at Adelaide High School and Grange Primary School as a Japanese language assistant teacher.
Firstly I would like to talk about Adelaide High school. Adelaide High is a school which concentrates on foreign language education so they have 7 different language classes. Students are interested in learning languages and learn them very well.
I am working with 4 Japanese language teachers. It is interesting for me that each teacher has their own teaching strategies and also each student knows their attitude to fit the teacher’s way. During class, I usually sit on a student’s seat and help the teacher accordingly. So far, I’ve showed some photos of Japan, talked about my life or wrote some stories for student’s reading.
Secondly, I am working with a young teacher; she is extremely kind to me and a great teacher. She has classes from Reception to Year 2 students. Usually I help students draw pictures and make Origami.
Grange Primary school has a multicultural week in Term 1. This opportunity gives students a chance to experience many other countries cultural events (e.g. African or Greek dances, having Sushi, etc.). For this event, the teacher and I are planning special classes of calligraphy, although our students are young they are enthusiastic and interested in Japanese culture. So I’m sure we’ll enjoy and learn from each other at this special class!
Finally, I am thoroughly enjoying my work and life in Adelaide the people are so kind to me. I think I’m lucky to work here being my first job I’m hoping to further my knowledge in teaching and relations with students. I would like to say many thanks to the people who are supporting me. Thank you.
