| Dr Cristina
Rocha, former Japan Foundation Fellow and presently ARC Postdoctoral
Fellow at the University of Western Sydney, will launch her book,
Zen in Brazil: The Quest for Cosmopolitan Modernity, at the Japan
Foundation on April 20.
Zen in Brazil addresses the adoption and creolisation
of Japanese Zen Buddhism in Brazil. This is the very first book
to illuminate the Buddhist boom which has been gathering momentum
in Brazil since the mid-1990s, examining the association between
Japan, Japanese immigrants and modernity in Brazilian society.
