“Wonderbus
Japan 2005 was an exceptional experience, introducing Japanese
culture to people in regional cities and towns of Australia. It was
so enthusiastically received in each place visited, and likewise,
each new place fascinated the Japanese crew. The beautiful, quiet
country towns, with their natural panoramas and blue sky... The wonderful
people who opened their schools, parks, homes and hearts to us...
The beautiful eyes and smiles of the children... I am eager to communicate
the heart of Wonderbus Japan to as many people as possible.”
- Kenichi Kasho
The
Wonderbus Japan project in 2005 was a completely new venture for
the Japan Foundation, Sydney and its twelve-member crew of performers.
For the largely inexperienced performers, the two-week tour by bus
of regional towns in New South Wales, Victoria and Adelaide was
both physically and mentally tough. However, it was an experience
which each would never forget. Videographer Kenichi Kasho joined
the crew of Wonderbus Japan 2005 to document this journey. Since
returning, it has been his hope to share the ‘Wonderbus magic’
with others through his photographs and video footage.
The opening of the Wonderbus
Japan 2005 Photo Exhibition coincides with the departure of Wonderbus
Japan 2006. It will include a selection of approximately fifty
photographs as well as two documentary films, providing Sydneysiders
with the opportunity to find out more about Wonderbus Japan and
to show their support for this worthwhile cultural project.
