Kyudo, the traditional art of Japanese archery, is the central theme this exhibition by Frank le Petit. Frank Le Petit is a French-Australian artist based in Sydney whose work is strongly influenced by Japan. His immersion into the Japanese creative world has led him to develop a unique artistic approach to photography.

[kyudo]graphy is a series of 9 large-size photographic sequences on fabric. The photographs of kyudo archers were taken in the gardens of Tokyo’s Meiji Jingu shrine near the Shiseikan, a hall dedicated to the practice of kyudo and other martial arts. All these sequences are manually processed on strips of fabric and subsequently stitched together. The result is a surprising contrast between the contemporary visual style of the digital photographs and the tactile and traditional nature of the fabric.
