"Like Listening to the Wind": Solo Flute Pieces by Japanese Composers

Treat yourself to a night of captivating solo flute compositions by some of Japan’s greatest composers at the Japan Foundation, Sydney on 24 August. Performed by flautist Antares Boyle, the solo concert will showcase diverse contemporary works by internationally renowned composers, including Toru Takemitsu, Toshio Hosokawa and Joji Yuasa.

A recent Master’s graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Boyle has taken a special interest in new music by Japanese composers. Using three types of flutes - concert, alto and bass - in her performance, her varied programme paints a fascinating portrait of cultural exchange in the second half of the 20th century.

Boyle has participated in many performances around Australia and the United States as solo flautist and chamber musician. Like Listening to the Wind will be Boyle’s colourful interpretation of when dreams and passion meets the land of the rising sun.
