Almost a sell-out at the 11th Japanese Film Festival, Spring Snow is a tragedy set during the Taisho Era (1912-1926) when Japan faced dramatic changes, as traditional values mixed with Western ideas. Two aristocratic families struggle to find their place in the new society: Satoko, daughter of a noble family that has fallen on hard times, meets Kiyoaki, the son of a nouveau-riche samurai family. Both are deeply in love with one another, but Kiyoaki’s pride prevents them from being together. It is only when Satoko accepts a marriage proposal from the Imperial family that Kiyoaki realises he will lose Satoko forever and decides to run after her.
