Bored with school, 15-year-old Daisuke Kawashima decides to hitchhike to visit the 7,000-year-old cedar tree on distant Yakushima Island. Daisuke meets some fascinating people along the way, including friendly truck driver Sumire and a mysterious mountaineer girl who encourages him to live out his dreams.
