During the Aoi Festival in Kyoto, Tora meets Kagari, a widow and maid of the famous ceramic artist, Kano. Attracted by her beauty and elegance, Tora unknowingly begins to fall in love. However, Kagari is already engaged to an apprentice of Kano, but when marriage plans fail, Kagari, in despair, flees home to Tango to be with her son. Aware of his feelings for Kagari, Tora runs after her but is stopped by his inability to express his feelings for her.
